If a superhero is going to have a mentor, it should be someone major like Brando or The Dude. Sir Anthony Hopkins is another good one. Playing Odin in the big movie version of Thor, Sir Anthony enjoyed messing with beefy Chris Hemsworth.

“I’m glad I’m not young anymore because you see their insecurities and I always joke along with them,” Hopkins said while he was promoting the Woody Allen comedy You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger. “I say things like, ‘Is that the way you’re going to play it?’ Chris and I got to know each other but he was looking nervous and I said, ‘Oh, is that the way you’re going to play it?’ He said, ‘Yeah, is it okay?’ I said, ‘Well, it’s your career.’’

Although things are looking up for MGM with Spyglass Entertainment possibly coming on board to manage the studio once the more than 100 creditors forgive the debt for equity, it hasn’t stopped the studio from pushing back it’s projects.

There’s still no official green light for The Hobbit films and the James Bond 23 producers are waiting it out before moving on with the production.

While it had been expected, MGM’s Red Dawn remake that was scheduled for a November 26 release has now been pushed back to a date to be determined. The movie stars Chris Hemsworth, Josh Peck, Josh Hutcherson, Adrianne Palicki, Isabel Lucas, Connor Cruise and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

We’ll also have to wait longer on Drew Goddard and Joss Whedon’s The Cabin in the Woods, which had been set for a January 14, 2011 release. That movie stars Richard Jenkins, Bradley Whitford, Kristen Connolly, Chris Hemsworth, Anna Hutchison, Fran Kranz, Jesse Williams and Brian White.

“Thor” isn’t due out until May 2011, but one of the film’s stars – Sir Anthony Hopkins – said fans can expect something very special.

“It’s colossal,” he told Access Hollywood’s Scott “Movie” Mantz at the Toronto International Film Festival, of the upcoming Marvel comic, which is heading to the big screen.

Anthony said Thor’s portrayer, Chris Hemsworth, really embodied the role of the Norse god and warrior.

“He’s terrific,” Anthony said. “He looks like he could conquer the universe.”

Kenneth Branagh has gone into some detail about the tone and production design of his upcoming foray into comic book movie direction on “Thor,” perhaps dispelling some fan worries over the potential to appear campy while working with Nordic gods in the mythical realm of Asgard.

During a roundtable interview, FilmSchoolRejects spoke to Branagh about the less-than-positive fan reaction to a few Marvel-released stills from the film.

Having earned the reputation of a serious thespian and idiosyncratic director of large-scale Shakespearian drama and comedy, Kenneth Branagh has always struck most as a surprisingly apropos choice for director of the necessarily epic “Thor.” Yet, even Branagh is not exempt from concerned speculation among fans.

My apologies for the downtime over the past few days but I was in the midst of moving the site over to our new host The Fan Sites Network. I’m sure you’ve noticed the new look both on the main site and in the gallery and hope you’ll like them. I didn’t intend to change them during the move but the old themes that were up on the old server wouldn’t work 100% correctly on the newer server so the changes had to be made. Please note that I’m still working on a few tweaks and fixing some errors in the posts and pages, so you’ll probably notice a few other differences in the site over the next few days. Please let me know if you run into any issues accessing anything or see any errors that I may have missed and I’ll fix them as soon as I can. :)
