An interview might just have revealed the foes of Thor 2 … please be advised, the article below may contain spoilers…
It would have been easy to assume that Thanos would be the primary antagonist in Thor 2 particularly with his reveal at the end of The Avengers, and the fact that the title for the sequel, The Dark World, could possibly hint at the setting of Niffelheim. But the following information could provide further clues to what we can expect.
In an interview with I Review Too, stuntman James Grogan revealed the following: “The other day for example, this is quite random but I was working on Thor 2, I had a load of stunt guys in and the director came in and he said ‘Look, we want you all to be elves,’ and I was like ‘What the hell is an elf anyway?’ and he said ‘I want you all to walk around like these supernatural animals,’ honestly it was the most ridiculous thing ever but you just have to not be self aware and get on with it.”
So then, The Dark World could refer to Svartalfheim, which is inhabited by Dark Elves who are ruled by Malekith the Accused. If true, that’s presumably the role that has been left vacant by Mads Mikkelsen after he left the project in favour of playing Hannibal Lecter in an upcoming TV series.
It will be interesting to see if this does turn out to be the case, and with the film set to go in front of cameras next month, any casting decisions should provide hints as to whether this is indeed the direction the film will take.
