At CinemaCon, Universal announced it is making a sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman, with Kristen Stewart reprising her fairy-tale role.
A follow-up to the blockbuster movie, which raked in nearly $400 million worldwide, seemed in jeopardy due to the off-screen scandal involving Stewart and director Rupert Sanders. He will not be returning to helm the sequel.
After some initial reports that the Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) would be the focus of a second movie, it looks like Snow White is once again the heroine of the story. There are no details about the potential plot, or who else might return. Hemsworth seems likely, as does Sam Claflin as William. But Charlize Theron probably won’t be back as the first movie’s vanquished villain, Ravenna. (Though, in a land with magic, you never know.)
“Oh, it’s gonna be f—-n’ amazing,” Stewart told Indiewire of the sequel in December. “No, I’m so excited about it, it’s crazy.”
