Back in December it was reported that Cate Blanchett was wanted for a role in the upcoming Marvel sequel Thor: Ragnarok, with Mark Ruffalo subsequently supporting the rumour. And now director Taika Waititi has confirmed that the two-time Oscar winner is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“Yes,” Waititi tells Wired when asked if the actress is set to appear in the film. “Look, it’s so early I’m not sure exactly what the extent of it is, but it’s looking good, which would make me very happy.”
Asked about the rumour that Blanchett will play Hela, Waititi responded that: “Yeah, the rumor … Here’s the thing. I can’t say anything. I’ve probably said way too much.”
Thor: Ragnarok is set for release on November 3rd 2017 and features a cast that so far includes Marvel veterans Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston and Jaimie Alexander, along with Cate Blanchett. (Source)
I have added images from the People’s Choice Awards 2016 into the gallery. Chris was presented the “Choice Male Action Movie Star” by Lea Michele and Adam Devine. I want to give a big thank you to my friend, AliKat for sharing the images with us. Head over to the gallery for the latest additions.
Chris’ latest film, In the Heart of the Sea — an adaptation of Nathaniel Philbrick’s best-selling book about the 1820 tragedy of the whaling ship Essex, which reportedly inspired Herman Melville to write Moby Dick — hit theatres this weekend. Take a look below at what the critics have to say about the film:
RogerEbert.com — The film remains watchable, thanks to Anthony Dod Mantle’s cinematography, the superb supporting cast (which includes Cillian Murphy as a veteran second mate), and the sheer scale of its production. Much of the seafaring action was shot on a full-scale, working replica of the Essex, with actors (including Hemsworth) scampering up and down masts in long crane shots so you know it’s really them. And the whales, created through CGI and puppetry, are so magnificent that I wouldn’t have minded watching them for two hours floating around and talking to each other in subtitled whalesong. A version of “Moby-Dick” told entirely from the whale’s point-of-view might be fascinating; at the very least it would be more fascinating than this impressively enormous and impassioned but disjointed film.
EntertainmentWeekly.com — Howard’s take on the film is “light on personality and spark, which is a bit of a problem for a white-knuckle whaling tale. Some of this, obviously, rests with the director. But it also falls at the feet of his leading man, Chris Hemsworth, who fails to muster the same sort of charisma he displayed in Howard’s last film, Rush. He’s a strapping, seafaring cipher.”
RollingStone.com — Only landlubbers would resist the rousing action of man versus leviathan. Sure it’s old-school. So what. Howard puts heart, soul and every computerized whale trick in the book into crafting a seafaring adventure to rock your boat.
Vulture.com — What a leading man [Chris Hemsworth] makes, brawny and bold and blond and fair. The Viking-like Hemsworth is well-cast as a veteran Nantucket whaler who seeks to command his own ship, but whose lowly origins keep him down. The whaling sequences probably work best, in part because that’s where the film is most heavily invested. Howard seems less interested in the men than in the machinery and the viscera – the ropes, bolts, and harpoons, and the fat, the entrails, the blood. Even the sickly pallor of Anthony Dod Mantle’s processed-looking color photography works here. This might be the first film I’ve ever seen where I couldn’t decide if the cinematography was outlandishly beautiful or outlandishly ugly; but in these whaling sequences, the difference sort of doesn’t matter.
In a newly released deleted scene from Thor: The Dark World, Loki (Tom Hiddleston) finally gets what he always wanted — the throne of Asgard, the people, and Thor’s hammer. Too bad it’s all in his head.
While imprisoned in Asgard for attacking New York City in The Avengers, Thor’s trickster brother cast an illusion that saw himself taking the throne in a grand coronation. You’ll notice the scene isn’t fully complete; many of the visual effects aren’t fleshed out and Rene Russo’s Frigga is inserted in the scene through title cards.
Chris Hemsworth has given back to his family in a big way.
The actor’s younger brother, Liam Hemsworth, revealed in a recent interview that the Avengers star surprised their parents by paying off their debts.
While speaking to Britain’s Independent, Hemsworth recalled how his brother called their father one day and told him to look at his bank account.
“He [his father] called my brother Chris back and said: ‘I don’t know how to feel. Since I left home I have had debts and I thought I’d be paying them off until I died and have this weight hanging over me, and now to have them completely cleared,’” he said.
The 25-year-old The Hunger Games star added, “They are so happy now and able to spend more time with us, I would love to be able to do something for my parents like that.”
The younger Hemsworth is also giving back by joining his brother as ambassadors for the Australian Childhood Foundation, which works with children going through trauma. “If you want to be a good person who adds to society, you have responsibility,” he said. “That is something I take very seriously.” (Source)

Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok, the third instalment of the Marvel Studios’ franchise starring Chris Hemsworth as the hammer-wielding comic book Super Hero, has today been confirmed to start pre-production in Queensland, Australia in January 2016 with filming to begin in June 2016.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk met with Marvel executives in June in Los Angeles and, through Screen Queensland, worked tirelessly to ensure Queensland was the production destination of choice. Here’s what Annastacia Palaszczuk had to say in a statement about Thor: Ragnarok filming in Australia.
“This is a huge win for Queensland and I am thrilled that Thor will be filming exclusively in our state. As our economy diversifies, Queensland is demonstrating its strength as a lead destination for filmmakers both internationally and locally, and my government is doing what it can to ensure that Queensland remains a global hub for the screen sector. The production will spend more than $100 million AUD in Queensland and will employ over 750 Queensland crew.”
The studio will film at many locations throughout Queensland including scenes at Village Roadshow Studios at the Gold Coast. (Source)
