Eventful, Inc. the leading digital service connecting fans with entertainment and local events, and Roadside Attractions today announced that moviegoers nationwide can bring a free screening of CA$H to their city and enter to win a prize of $2,500. Fans can Demand CA$H in their city through Eventful’s Demand it! service, and the top five cities who Demand it! the most get a free screening. One person in each of the five cities will cash in with a $2,500 prize. The city in first place will receive a special appearance by a CA$H cast member at the screening. Moviegoers can log on to http://eventful.com/cashfilm to Demand CA$H in their city and enter to win $2,500.

CA$H, written and directed by Stephen Milburn Anderson (South Central), features electric performances by Sean Bean (Lord of the Rings, Percy Jackson & the Olympians) and hot newcomers Chris Hemsworth (Star Trek, and the upcoming Thor) and Victoria Profeta (Push, The Drew Carey Show). The film, produced by Naveen Chathappuram of Immortal Thoughts with Prema Thekkek serving as Executive Producer, follows a young couple on an adventure of a lifetime through the streets of Chicago.

A stroke of good luck – finding a suitcase full of cash — turns lethal for Sam Phelan (Hemsworth) and his wife Leslie (Profeta). The money fulfills their fantasies, but also brings strange and sinister Pyke Kubic (Bean) to their doorstep. Pyke leads Sam and Leslie on a frenetic and violent crime spree, forcing them to play by his twisted rules. But Sam and Leslie quickly learn to play the game. They teach Pyke that payback is a bitch for everyone when it comes to cash.

“This is our second time working with Eventful and we’ve been really impressed with their site,” said Roadside Co-President Eric d’Arbeloff. “Their enormous user base has proven interest in attending events. They are an excellent launching pad for theatrical films.”

“We’re excited to work with Roadside Attractions to give people the opportunity to bring a free screening of CA$H to their city and to provide a $2,500 prize in each of the winning cities during these tough economic times,” said Eventful CEO Jordan Glazier. “We love helping people discover, demand, and share a wide variety of events ranging from music concerts and film releases to art gallery openings and wine tastings.”

“We couldn’t title a film CA$H without some real cash involved,” said Thekkek. “In these economic times, we wanted a creative way to reach out to the audience. Eventful was the perfect method of doing so while bringing in one of the themes prevalent in CA$H, the economy.”

Eventful is the leading digital social media service which connects consumers with entertainment, live events and performers.

There hasn’t been much build up in the movie news and blog world regarding the upcoming release of the action/thriller Cash, which is being directed by Stephen Milburn Anderson (South Central). It’s really a shame though, because it stars one of the hot young up-and-coming Hollywood actors, Chris Hemsworth (Red Dawn, Thor) and the solid veteran actor Sean Bean (Flightplan, Lord of the Rings).

After having a good showing and building up a decent amount of steam at last year’s American Film Market, the film Cash has been floating around, working on a distribution deal. The news now is that Three Good Men, the studio behind Cash, has struck a deal with Roadside Attractions for a theatrical release on March 26th, 2010 and Lionsgate will handle the DVD release. That’s good news for fans of both Bean and Hemsworth.

Roadside Attractions is known for bringing mostly independent films to a wider audience and they usually don’t invest their time, effort and money unless the film has promise, which can only mean good things for audiences eagerly awaiting Cash. Roadside is responsible to bringing us films like Super Size Me, Fido (which has our very own Vic Holtreman quoted on the DVD cover), Amazing Grace, The Cove and most recently they picked up Winter’s Bone from Sundance. A blockbuster line up? No, but it is a solid offering and each film mentioned has gained critical acclaim in its individual genre.

To help build up anticipation and promote Cash, the studio is running a “Demand It” contest, sort of like what was done with Paranormal Activity, only with a cash prize. All you have to do is go to the Eventful page HERE and then “demand” to have Cash shown at a theater in your town. The accompanying contest is pretty decent as well: the top five cities in voting round will receive a free screening and 1 person in each of the top five cities will receive $,2500. The top city in votes will also have a cast member stop by to attend the screening. Not a bad deal, huh?

Cash was written and directed by Stephen Milburn Anderson and follows the story of Sam (Chris Hemsworth) and Leslie (Victoria Profea) Phelan. After the cash-strapped couple stumble upon a large sum of money and decide to keep it, many things start going wrong in their life — including the being introduced to Pyke Kubic (Sean Bean) who is there to collect the money for his twin brother, Reese.

Roadside Attractions Co-President said in a statement:

“Cash is a great ride, and is timely as well. It’s about an ordinary couple, faced with foreclosure on their house, who kind of go crazy trying to keep a bunch of money that could change their lives.”

Timely indeed. In this time of recession, foreclosure and job loss a huge sum money would sure help a lot of people out. If the economic times were different, would people react differently to finding a large sum of money, returning it instead of keeping it? It’s an interesting thought and I’m excited to see what Cash has to offer.

Cash, which was produced and financed by Naveen Chathappuram of Immortal Thoughts with Prema Thekkek acting as Executive Producer should not be confused with the a low-budget film of the same name.

Thanks to Ashley from the official CASH site for contacting me with the following information.

Stephen Milburn Anderson’s CASH (CA$H), starring Sean Bean and Chris Hemsworth, will release this Spring; announcement is placed on www.thefilmcash.com after a low budget film of the same name emerges.

CASH (CA$H), starring Sean Bean (Lord of the Rings, Percy Jackson & the Olympians) and Chris Hemsworth (Star Trek, Thor), will release Spring of 2010, states the official website for the film (www.thefilmcash.com).

The clarification comes at a time when a low budget film of the same name, starring a cast of unknowns, has appeared online.

“We wish the other film good luck, and want to reassure Sean Bean and Chris Hemsworth fans that CASH, directed by Stephen Milburn Anderson, will release this Spring. You can expect an official announcement by early February,” said producer Naveen Chathappuram.

The film bearing the same name was previously titled “Bullets, Blood & a Fistful of Ca$h.”

One Sean Bean fan page suggests that the sudden name change may have occurred to “piggyback” off of marketing efforts and pre-release buzz on Anderson’s CASH; the film has already established a firm fan base through innovative marketing.

“Sean Bean’s fans are eagerly awaiting CASH with building excitement,” said Carol of www.themightybean.com. “I can’t wait to see Sean on screen with Chris Hemsworth, another hot and current actor. I’ve liked everything about CASH from the cast to the unique themes and podcasts. My anticipation is shared by Sean’s huge fan base.”

The film had a successful run at Cannes due to its marketing campaign, which will expand nationally once the release date and distributor is announced.

CASH is a quirky psychological thriller that explores the power money wields over humans. In CASH, the bad economy has taken a toll on Sam (Chris Hemsworth) and Leslie’s (Victoria Profeta) marriage and finances. When the couple finds a suitcase full of cash, they think their luck will take a turn for the better… Until the strange and sinister criminal Pyke Kubic (Sean Bean) arrives at their doorstep, looking to collect what he believes is rightfully his. As Pyke leads Sam and Leslie on a tumultuous adventure through the streets of Chicago, each are pulled into a desperate spiral of deception and violence, all in the name of cash. Joining Anderson and Chathappuram is executive producer Prema Thekkek.

CASH is made by Three Good Men, in association with Immortal Thoughts, Golden Wings Cinema and Tomahawk Films. Media 8 Entertainment, which produced and distributed the Academy Award winning Monster, acts as the World Sales Agent for the film.

I’ve yet to meet someone who doesn’t like Sean Bean. I think he’s one of the greatest villainous actors working today (alongside Gary Oldman), and now we have word that he’s adding another villain role to his massive repertoire in a film called Ca$h.

Soon-to-be star Chris Hemsworth (Star Trek, the upcoming Red Dawn, Thor, and Cabin in the Woods) joins Bean in this “quirky psychological thriller” from writer/director Stephen Milburn Anderson. The film looks to deal with some fascinatingly pertinent topics, including the state of the economy, wrapped in an action movie setting.
Here’s the synopsis from the film’s official website:

A stroke of good luck turns lethal for Sam Phelan (CHRIS HEMSWORTH) and his wife Leslie (VICTORIA PROFETA) when they are faced with a life-changing decision which brings strange and sinister Pyke Kubic (SEAN BEAN) to their doorstep. As Pyke leads Sam and Leslie on a tumultuous adventure through the streets of Chicago, each are pulled deeper and deeper into a desperate spiral of deception and violence… All in the name of cash.

CASH is a quirky psychological thriller that explores the mysterious power which money yields over humans, triggering despicable acts to possess it. At a time when foreclosures, debt and unemployment are so common, CASH takes a bold look at our human foibles of greed, materialism, cowardice and immorality amidst a backdrop ripe with satire, stereotypes, mind games and consequences.

CASH is the dynamic work of acclaimed director Stephen Milburn Anderson. Known for his examination of societal evils in SOUTH CENTRAL, Anderson continues his analysis of hte human persona through CASH. Joining him on this endeavor are Producer Naveen Chathappuram and Executive Producer Prema Thekkek.

Thanks to the podcast section of the official site, I found out that Bean is actually playing two roles in this film – identical twin brothers. Spoiler alert: one is rocking a pretty ridiculous mullet. The film is rumored for release in a few months – Spring 2010.

This sounds like a dash of Joel Schumacher’s Phone Booth mashed up with Richard Kelly’s The Box. Anybody excited for this project? I am, if only to see Hemsworth mix it up with Sean Bean on screen.

Moola, greenback, cheddar, lettuce, Benjamins, dough, c-note, buck or cash – whatever term you use to describe it, everyone needs more money (even James Cameron, apparently). Have you ever found some money on the ground and kept it? Of course you have. Everyone does that, there’s no way to figure out who dropped that lone twenty or fifty dollar bill, so might as well keep it! But what if the money was in a wallet? That changes the whole game. You could take the money out and return the wallet saying you found it empty – or, if your moral standards are slightly higher, just return it like you found it.

Personally, I find money all the time laying around (mostly at restaurants on empty dirty tables ) and I keep it. There’s no sense in letting someone else find and keep it. Let’s say though that the amount was significantly higher and you found it in a briefcase or duffel bag. What would you do then? Spend it or return it? What if the owner of themoney started looking for you instead of you looking for him? That would sure change things in a hurry.
Such is the premises behind the new film Cash starring Sean Bean (Black Death, Lord of the Rings), Chris Hemsworth (Thor, Red Dawn) and directed by Stephen Millburn Anderson (South Central), who also wrote the screenplay. Cash was filmed by Three Good Men in association with Immortal Thoughts, Golden Wings Cinema and Tomahawk Films and was produced by Naveen Chathappuram with Prema Thekkek serving as executive producer.

Here is Cash’s official synopsis:

“A stroke of good luck turns lethal for Sam Phelan (Chris Hemsworth) and his wife Leslie (Victoria Profeta) when they are faced with a life-changing decision which brings strange and sinister Pyke Kubic (Sean Bean) to their doorstep. As Pyke leads Sam and Leslie on a tumultuous adventure through the streets of Chicago, each are pulled deeper and deeper into a desperate spiral of deception and violence…All in the name of cash.”

I like the thought behind Cash and I’m a big fan of Hemsworth, who was on screen for only a few minutes in last summer’s Star Trek reboot but managed to really make a name for himself. He followed that up with a solid performance in A Perfect Getaway and I’m hoping he really nails his portrayal of Jed in the Red Dawn remake and, of course, the god of thunder Thor.

Sean Bean is no slouch either. He became a fanboy favorite after his role as Boromir in Lord of the Rings and he brings get depth to his characters in movies like Ronin, Troy and Equilibrium. He also has a way of playing a great bad guy in National Treasure, Flightplan and The Island, so I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do as Pyke Kubic and his twin brother Reese Kubic in Cash.

If you don’t already know, Screen Rant is a big promoter of original movie ideas coming out of Hollywood. Sure, we like the big mainstream stuff and some remakes are catching our eye – but there’s nothing more refreshing than a seeing a movie that doesn’t have a lot of hype behind it get picked up and made available to a wide audience. My sources tell me that an announcement regarding the distribution and release date for Cash will be made by early February.

If you feel like trying to win a contest, then head over to the official website for Cash and enter to win a chance to walk the red carpet with the actors and crew.

What would YOU do with a large sum of money you found? I would hoard it away and spend it only $5 at a time and mostly on Girl Scout cookies.

Cash is slated for a Spring 2010 release.
