We’ve got some Avengers news today, and I’m elated to tell you that it is not set images or videos. A new piece of promo art has been unveiled for Marvel’s upcoming collection of comics entitled The Road to The Avengers, in which we’ll get in-continuity stories for Iron Man, Captain America, and the agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The promo art isn’t really anything special, but it’s still The Avengers.
Marvel’s The Avengers picks up when an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security. And Nick Fury, director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster.
With director Joss Whedon at it’s helm, and an ensemble cast including Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Clark Gregg, Cobie Smulders, Samuel L. Jackson, with Tom Hiddleston, and Stellan Skarsgard, the film releases worldwide May 4, 2012!
When MTV caught up with Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Hemsworth after the Avengers D23 panel, the two were coy about any scenes other than the ones that have been revealed. Downey joked that his favorite scene in the movie was the one “in which we don’t reveal anything about the plot,” but Hemsworth admitted that his favorite was already revealed.
“One of our first days was the whole assembly,” he said, referring to the scene that was revealed at the end of Captain America: The First Avenger. “That was pretty crazy. Not only meeting Robert Downey and Scarlett and whatever, but it was meeting Iron Man and Black Widow and the Hulk. It’s exciting.”
Last night, some new set photos from The Avengers arrived which feature Chris Evans as Captain America fighting an actor in a motion-capture suit, and another with Captain America holding a bizarre otherworldly weapon. It seems we may have some answers to those mysterious photos as an on-set insider confirmed that The Skrulls will be villains in The Avengers, alongside Tom Hiddleston’s Loki.
The involvement of The Skrulls has been rumored for some time now, with one report dating back to December 2010, and another report from March which alleged The Skrulls would team up with Loki. Those reports were never confirmed by Marvel.
The Skrulls, which first appeared in the Marvel comic books in 1961, are a shape-shifting race of aliens who can turn into any living creature or inanimate object. It isn’t known how they become involved with Loki in The Avengers story line as of yet, but their presence in the movie would explain the motion-capture actors and the bizarre firearms.
The Avengers comes to theaters May 4th, 2012 and stars Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Samuel L. Jackson, Don Cheadle, Clark Gregg, Tom Hiddleston. The film is directed by Joss Whedon. (Source)
The explosions continue for director Joss Whedon and Marvel’s The Avengers production team out on the East Ninth Street set in Cleveland, which is doubling for 42nd Street in NYC. A video has popped up online recording the action. Check out the video below:
According to a new report, production on Snow White and the Huntsman has come to a standstill as the riots keep getting worse and worse in London! The riots have gotten so out of hand in London, England, many shops in the city are now closing at the 5 p.m. daily, while other businesses have stopped operating all together — including Kristen Stewart‘s latest film, Snow White and the Huntsman.
“A friend of mine is stuck in London w/ #KristenStewart’s team. They JUST stopped #SnowWhite prep work until riots die down. #prayforlondon,” Entertainment Insider and Social Media Expert Gregory Littley tweeted Aug. 9.
Snow White and the Huntsman is scheduled to hit theaters in less than a year on June 1, 2012, so we hope they can resume pre-production soon and get back on track. Most importantly, we hope everyone involved stays out of harm’s way! (Source)
After tackling the fantasy genre with episodes of HBO’s Game of Thrones, Brian Kirk is in early talks to direct Thor 2 for Marvel Studios and Disney. This would mark Kirk’s directorial debut on a major Hollywood production, which has already been skedded for a July 26, 2013 release.
The project will bring back Chris Hemsworth’s hammer-wielding superhero to the bigscreen for his next adventure after The Avengers.
Kirk rose to the top of the list of directors vying for the job after he showed his abilities to juggle large ensembles of thesps and complex storylines in his TV projects, while also grounding the fantasy genre via his work on “Thrones.” The “Thor” sequel is expected to feature a large cast of Aasgardians and creatures in the Norse mythology-set world.
A Marvel Studios spokesperson declined to comment. (Source)
The cast of the upcoming film, Snow White And The Huntsman are all headed to London, England for pre-production work on the film. Yesterday, producer Palak Patel confirmed the start date for principle photography on the picture: August 15th.
Patel also confirmed the castmembers chosen for each of the eight dwarves from the film (during Comic-Con, it was revealed that there would be eight dwarves and that one of them would perish).
The 8 dwarfs are: Ian McShane, Ray Winstone, Bob Hoskins, Nick Frost, Eddie Marsan, Toby Jones, Johnny Harris, and Brian Gleeson.
Snow White And The Huntsman’s release date is set for June 1, 2012. Charlize Theron, Sam Claflin, and Chris Hemsworth are the other leads for the picture. SWATH production is expected to take around three months. (Source)
Marvel Studios released a brief teaser trailer for the highly anticipated The Avengers movie at the credits-end of Captain America: The First Avenger.
Also to our delight, a few production stills from The Avengers were released as well! So far, only one image featuring Chris as the mighty Thor has been made available. Hopefully many more “Avengers” images will start popping up over the next few weeks! In the meantime, head over to the gallery for the latest additions.
