Americans get to first see Thor on May 6, but lucky Australians only have to wait till April 21 for the premiere. Maybe that’s why actor Chris Hemsworth spoke with GQ Australia to discuss the Norse-inspired movie.

ComicBookMovie reported on some of Hemsworth’s answers.

“I did Comic-Con and there were 7000 people,” he divulged. “I got a real sense of the fan base that Thor has and the buzz around it. You’re plugging away, you’re auditioning and your fingers are crossed. Then you get the part, sign the contract and start to realise millions of people follow this guy and know more about your character than you do.”

Hemsworth had to learn about “Thor” fast, but he had help getting in character from the great sets.

“We were lucky in that they had actually built most of the sets,” he said. “It’s easier having this big fantasy world around you than if there was just a green screen. It was like being a kid playing dress-ups. You do feel like you are this guy — especially with the costume. The first day I put it on, [Anthony] Hopkins looked at me and looked at both of us, and said, ‘No acting required here.’”

Well aware of how big the “Thor” universe is, the actor said, “It’s existed for 50 years or something and all of a sudden it’s like, ‘Oh [frick], there’s a lot of people waiting here to say that’s right, or that’s wrong.’” And that’s not even counting how old the original stories about Thor are.

While talking up Thor with MTV News, Chris Hemsworth made an admission that will make your imagination explode. To help his brother Liam audition for the role of Gale in The Hunger Games, he ran lines with him … reading the part of the heroine, Katniss Everdeen.

Obviously, Chris was an asset since Liam got the part. Perhaps director Gary Ross wants to rethink hiring Jennifer Lawrence for the part when there’s another good-looking blonde who knows the lines? (Source)

For years, Marvel has had the habit of seeding their movies with teases to other upcoming film projects — and it looks like this summer’s Thor is no different. Who better to go up against a demigod with a magical hammer than… an archer?!

During a presentation by Walt Disney Pictures today at the theater owners’ event CinemaCon, attendees were surprised when the House of Mouse showed a sizzle reel with footage from Marvel movies past, present and future. Amongst the moving pictures on display was new footage from “Thor,” including an eye-opening shot of Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye.

“Basically, Hawkeye’s costume is going to be very similar to the Ultimates version of the character,” reported ComingSoon.net. “In the concept art, we see Renner wearing similar dark glasses and a leather outfit with a matching over-the-shoulder leather quill for his arrows, only the movie version of Hawkeye has the S.H.I.E.L.D. logo emblazoned on it to show his government allegiances.”

Back in February, MTV News interviewed Renner on the Oscars red carpet in which the actor talked about the Avengers script and Hawkeye’s costume.

Other footage shown at CinemaCon featured Thor smashing his hammer to the ground and “causing waves of destruction,” and what is speculated to be pre-visualization animatics for “The Avengers” movie.

The footage also included a brief interview with actor Mark Ruffalo talking about his role as the Hulk in “The Avengers,” saying that his character was “definitely” going to be a hero rather than the rampaging catalyst as seen in the inaugural “Avengers” comic. (Source)

Chris Hemsworth was left red-faced during his first camera test for Thor because he put on so much muscle while he was bulking up to play the superhero, his costume didn’t fit. The Australian actor plays the Nordic superhero in the upcoming self-titled blockbuster, directed by renowned thespian Kenneth Branagh.

Movie bosses ordered the star to hit the gym and gain as much muscle as possible before filming started, but Hemsworth went too far with his workouts and became so heavy he had to have his costume re-sized.

He tells the Los Angeles Times, “I got the part and immediately started looking at the comic books, and the guy is 500 pounds or something and looks like Schwarzenegger. And I thought, ‘OK, I’m not gonna get to that.’ But I have to get bigger. (The filmmakers) kept saying ‘Yeah, get as big as you can, as big as you can.’

“And then I came back right before Christmas, just before we started the movie, and had a final sort of camera test and put the costume on and within a couple of minutes, my hands started going numb.

“And everyone was like, ‘Yeah, that’s not cool.’ And I started getting pins and needles and you’d touch the skin and the blood wouldn’t return to that area so quick. And I thought, ‘OK, it doesn’t fit’.”

Hemsworth’s costume was altered to fit his new shape, and the actor was ordered to “pull back” his gym sessions to prevent any more problems. (Source)
