What to Expect From … Thor in “The Avengers”

ReelzChannel.com posted a “What We Know About The Avengers So Far” article on their website. Take a look below at what we can expect from Thor (Chris Hemsworth) in the 2012 film:

What We Know So Far
After starting a war in Asgard, the god of thunder is cast out by his father, Odin (Anthony Hopkins) and sent to Earth, where he plays kissyface with Natalie Portman and fights the Destroyer, a metallic giant sent by his mischievous brother, Loki (Tom Hiddleston).

It was revealed early last year (via leaked details of the movie) that Thor takes place after the events of The Incredible Hulk, which means it’s also set after the Iron Man movies.

What to Expect in The Avengers
Marvel’s start of production announcement confirmed that Hiddleston would return, so The Avengers will be a personal, family affair for Thor. Hemsworth has revealed that there will be plenty of tension between the Asgardian and the rest of the team, perhaps the Hulk particularly (as has often been the case in the comic books).

What He Said About The Avengers
He recently told IGN that he’s “incorporating some sort of broadsword techniques” for his hammer swinging in The Avengers, and is already “back in the gym” training for the movie. The Thor press tour will keep Hemsworth from the first two weeks of shooting, which may be why he’s messed up a few details. Earlier this month, Hemsworth revealed that Portman will appear in The Avengers, a statement that Portman quickly refuted.

Chris Evans Provides an “Avengers” Updates

Chris Evans (Captain America) has been working on the set of The Avengers in Albuquerque, New Mexico with his co-stars, Chris Hemsworth, (Thor) Robert Downey Jr., (Iron Man) and Mark Ruffalo, (Bruce Banner) among others.

Evans recently spoke with MTV about his experiences on set. Speaking on how director, Joss Whedon is dealing with so many big-name characters at once, he said:

“It’s not an easy task for Joss to incorporate all of these characters, and not only is he doing a fantastic job, but everyone is just getting along so well.”

Evans also admitted to unleashing his inner fan-boy when seeing his co-stars in their heroic attire. He said:

“I seen Hemsworth with the cape and Downey with the suit, and it’s the first time I’ve really kind of geeked out.”

Much to the dismay of the studios, much of the key points of The Avengers have come out. It’s known that Loki, who was played by Tom Hiddleston in Thor, will return for the ensemble film as one of its main villains. He will be aided by the power of the Cosmic Cube as well as his new associates, the alien species known as the Skrull. Latino Review also broke the story that the mighty villain, Thanos will play his part.

With Joss Whedon at the helm, “The Avengers” is set to be one of the first big films of next year’s summer season with a release date of May 4, 2012. (Source)

Tom Hiddleston Hints at “The Avengers” Script

As anyone who’s been following the ever-growing excitement surrounding Joss Whedon’s The Avengers well knows, the nitty-gritty details of the film are hard to come by these days. Aside from the film’s superstar cast, and the fact that filming began last week, there hasn’t been too much to report.

Recently, MTV News managed to get a few teasers from Tom Hiddleston during the Thor press day over the weekend, we’ve gained some serious “Avengers” insight — from the security measures taken with the scripts, to who will likely be playing the sole villain in the film.

“It’s like ‘Mission: Impossible,’ ” Hiddleston joked about receiving the script. “It was delivered to me at my flat in London, and I sat down and I read it and my mind exploded,” he said. “It is so good and so fun, and so huge, what Joss Whedon has already done, that screenplay is an achievement in itself.”

Hiddleston said that he was so excited when he heard the news — that his mischievous “Thor” character, Loki, would indeed be a part of “Avengers,” he nearly fell off his chair.

“The thing is, you want to call all your friends and tell them, but that’s when the red dot appears on your forehead and your life is over,” he joked of the extreme parameters set to keep the actors from revealing anything. “So, I had to just do a Loki dance in my flat, that’s how it went down.”

With regard to the “tension” that Hiddleston’s onscreen brother Hemsworth (a.k.a. Thor) alluded to, the actor hinted that there will be far more tension between Loki and the Avengers.

“Let’s say it’s going to take more than Loki’s hunky brother to take him down this time,” Hiddleston said with a laugh. “The characters are so different. That’s part of the joy of ‘The Avengers,’ I think,” he said. “You bring all the people, you bring nuclear scientists and gods, and gamma-ray [scientists] and a super soldier from the1940s, so the skill sets are different, and I guess they’re all a match for Loki in different ways.”

We then asked Hiddleston if he felt the eight-against-one odds felt like a lot to take on.

“I guess so, but, you know, he has ways and means,” he said slyly.

“The Avengers” to Film in Cleveland

While states such as Illinois have seen a decline in Hollywood movie production deals that help fill empty hotel rooms, Ohio is seeing an increase in movie business, Ohio’s NBC affiliate WYKC reports.

Ohio’s film office secured four more movies to be filmed at least partly in Ohio. One of them – Marvel Entertainment’s The Avengers – had switched locations to Cleveland from Detroit. Marvel’s decision to shoot scenes for The Avengers in Ohio cost Detroit’s four-star Westin Book Cadillac about $280,000 in business, hotel sales manager Amanda Toy had previously told the Detroit News.

Entertainment Weekly says The Avengers started filming one month ago in Albuquerque, N.M., and was scheduled to move to Cleveland, followed by New York City. The movie will be released in theaters on May 4, 2012. (Source)

Another Villain Added to “The Avengers?”

Production on Marvel’s The Avengers is already underway, kicked off near the end of April with much fanfare and a personal message from writer/director Joss Whedon. At the time, the studio’s press release confirmed the central antagonist as none other than Loki, the conniving figure played by Tom Hiddleston in this month’s Thor.

Of course, we also know the cast consists of Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Chris Evans (Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), and Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill). However, if recent reports are accurate, there may be another villain facing off against this formidable team.

Potential spoilers from here on: So far, the running theory is that Loki uses the Cosmic Cube, teased in the “stinger” following the Thor credits, to contact the Skrulls. The green-skinned alien race of shapeshifters forms an army that battles the superhuman forces of The Avengers. However, Latino Review reports Loki may also wind up stealing and harnessing the power of another magical artifact from Odin’s vault: the infinity gauntlet.

The gauntlet — here’s a picture of it at Comic-Con 2010 — is a golden glove fitted with six “infinity gems” that give its wielder God-like power. In a ’90s Marvel comic book series, appropriately titled “The Infinity Gauntlet,” a mad Titan named Thanos creates the powerful object to give him mastery over time, space, mind, soul, reality, and power. Then he destroys half of Earth’s population and imprisons the universe’s other Cosmic entities.

Latino Review has been fairly reliable in the past, especially with Marvel-related mysteries, but this should be treated as a rumor for now. The site doesn’t reveal how Thanos fits into the story, though given the prominence of Loki and the Skrulls this time around, it may be safe to assume the cosmic villain part of a potential setup for a larger scale sequel. The forward-thinking plan has been Marvel’s modus operandi since Iron Man, no reason to suspect their May 4, 2012 release is any different. (Source)

First Behind the Scene Image for “The Avengers”

“We wanted to do a tease of an image — Let people know that the movie has started filming, and it’s real. We thought it would be fun to have the cast chairs — that’s the big selling point of the movie, that these people are together on the set.

I did get to New Mexico on the 1st day of shooting. Right off the bat, it involved a couple of characters who’d been in other movies meeting for the first time. It was a little surreal, realizing it was actually happening.”
     – Kevin Feige (“The Avengers,” producer)

The Avengers comes to theatres May 4, 2012.

Natalie Portman Will Not Return for “The Avengers”

Following recent news that Natalie would be reprising the role of Jane Foster from Thor in writer-director Joss Whedon’s super-team movie, The Avengers, she revealed to TodayOnline that she will not be in it.

I’m not in The Avengers, but I’m signed up for the next two [Thor] sequels if they are made. I think these inter-related Marvel movies are great fun. The Avengers will be like Ocean’s Eleven with the superhero all-stars!
