So just who is Chris Hemsworth, the Aussie actor playing the title role in Thor? Us Weekly uncovers some need-to-know info about the 28-year-old actor, who appears in the action flick alongside Natalie Portman and Anthony Hopkins (in theaters May 6).
1. His little brother, Liam, dated Miley Cyrus. Chris’ brother Liam, 21, dated Miley Cyrus, 18, on-and-off for a year and a half. The two met on the set of the 2010 film The Last Song. Chris’ other brother, Luke, is also an actor.
2. He’s married to an older woman. The 28-year-old star married Spanish actress Elsa Pataky, 34, in December 2010. The two met earlier that year, went public with their relationship in September and were married three months later.
3. He used to work in landscaping. In an interview with GQ Australia, Hemsworth revealed he worked as a “horticultural laborer” before he got into acting.
4. He says kissing Natalie Portman was “ridiculous.” Playing the role of Thor, Hemsworth got to lock lips with Portman, 29, on-screen. “The whole experience was like, ‘What the f**k am I doing here?’ But in a good way,” he gushed to GQ. “It literally seemed like last week I was still working on Home and Away.” (Hemsworth starred on the Australian soap opera, Home and Away, from 2004 to 2007.)
5. He gained 20 pounds of muscle to play Thor. At Comic-Con in 2010, the actor said: “I put on a lot of weight… It was purely eating, eating, eating, working out and working out, trying to sleep as much as you can–that’s the other third of the equation.”
Hunky new star Chris Hemsworth has revealed that working alongside A-listers like Natalie Portman and Anthony Hopkins on the new blockbuster movie Thor was ‘ridiculous.’ The Australian actor plays the title superhero role in the new Hollywood comic book adaptation.
But said he found it surreal being surrounded by some of Hollywood’s biggest players given his humble beginnings in an Aussie soap opera. He told GQ magazine:
“It was ridiculous. Going from kissing Natalie Portman to working with Anthony Hopkins – the whole experience was like: ‘What the f*** am I doing here?’ But in a good way. It literally seemed like last week I was still working on Home and Away.”
In a recent interview, Chris Hemsworth has revealed that Natalie will be back as Jane Foster for a big screen adaptation of The Avengers.
The Avengers is scheduled to hit theaters on May 4th, 2012, and will unite Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders), S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) and S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) for the first time in cinematic history.
In a recent interview with Italian news site BadTaste, Hemsworth stated that his multi-picture deal with Marvel Studios delineates two Thor sequels as well as three Avengers projects. He went on to say that Natalie – who portrays his Earthly love interest Jane Foster – will be reprising her role in The Avengers. (Source)

The excitement for the summer-movie season is definitely gaining momentum, what with all the trailers and TV spots that have started to premiere and photos leaking online. One of the first big movies to open this season will be the highly anticipated Thor, directed by Kenneth Branagh and starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Kat Dennings and Stellan Skarsgård.
Earlier this week, MTV News was privy to an exclusive clip from the film, and a few days later, MTV was lucky enough to run into Hemsworth at CinemaCon to get a few details about the hype surrounding the project and one of the Aussie actor’s favorite sequences.
“I shot ‘Thor’ a year ago, was cast six months before that, so it’s been a long time of anticipation, but it’s all heating up and we’re very excited,” Hemsworth said of feeling the excitement building around the film.
Regarding a favorite scene or sequence, Hemsworth said he enjoyed his work on the Earth-bound set most.
“The stuff you see in the trailers with Natalie Portman, there’s a real sense of humor to it, which I don’t think we expected at the time,” he said. “Thor is a real fish-out-of-water, and I’d actually just come from shooting the stuff in the other realm or world that we were in, with Anthony Hopkins and big elaborate set pieces and costumes, and he’s fantastic and it was all wonderful, and then come to do the Earth stuff with Natalie Portman, Kat Dennings and Stellan Skarsgård, and Jane’s in a T-shirt,” he explained of feeling a bit shocked by the differences between the film’s two settings, joking that it was nice to not have to wear his elaborate costume for a while.
“It felt incredibly uncomfortable, but also there was some comic relief to all that,” Hemsworth said.
With the upcoming release of Thor approaching next month, fans were treated to another sneak peek of the Marvel film! Take a look at the clip titled How Dare You. What do you think of the clip? Sound off below!
Americans get to first see Thor on May 6, but lucky Australians only have to wait till April 21 for the premiere. Maybe that’s why actor Chris Hemsworth spoke with GQ Australia to discuss the Norse-inspired movie.
ComicBookMovie reported on some of Hemsworth’s answers.
“I did Comic-Con and there were 7000 people,” he divulged. “I got a real sense of the fan base that Thor has and the buzz around it. You’re plugging away, you’re auditioning and your fingers are crossed. Then you get the part, sign the contract and start to realise millions of people follow this guy and know more about your character than you do.”
Hemsworth had to learn about “Thor” fast, but he had help getting in character from the great sets.
“We were lucky in that they had actually built most of the sets,” he said. “It’s easier having this big fantasy world around you than if there was just a green screen. It was like being a kid playing dress-ups. You do feel like you are this guy — especially with the costume. The first day I put it on, [Anthony] Hopkins looked at me and looked at both of us, and said, ‘No acting required here.’”
Well aware of how big the “Thor” universe is, the actor said, “It’s existed for 50 years or something and all of a sudden it’s like, ‘Oh [frick], there’s a lot of people waiting here to say that’s right, or that’s wrong.’” And that’s not even counting how old the original stories about Thor are.
Chris attended the Thor press conference in Los Angeles, April 4th. Images have been added into the gallery. “Thor” opens May 6th and stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and Anthony Hopkins.
