"Chris Hemsworth is like Christopher Reeve in that he can do two things: he can wear a big red cape without a shred of self-consciousness. But he's also funny as hell, and he's so sweet. So with all the fish-out-of-water stuff, he's so funny. So he does almost two jobs in a way."

Does size matter? It certainly does if you’re Chris Hemsworth…

As you may have seen by now, the Aussie hottie bulked up quite a bit for his starring role in Thor, the upcoming flick based on the hammer-wielding comic-book warrior-god.

“His arms!” Rene Russo, who plays Thor’s stepmother Frigga in the movie, gushed this weekend at the Humane Society’s Genesis Awards in L.A. “He’s huge. He’s beautiful. I mean, not too big, but so beautiful.”

The movie doesn’t open until May, but Russo is already signed on for the sequel. She laughed, “Eventually they’ll kick me out, so who knows how many I’ll do.”

Over the weekend, Chris attended the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo to promote the upcoming film, Thor. “Thor” stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, and Idris Elba as Heimdall.

“The film is so well put together. It’s a blend of fantasy and sci-fi,” Chris told IGN. “Audiences aren’t silly; Can’t trick them to believe that something CG is actually the real thing. I was swept along like an audience member and able to enjoy it like an audience member. Very happy with finished film.”

The Los Angeles Times ran a story earlier in the week which revealed that the MGM remake/reboot Red Dawn was being digitally altered to change the invading enemy force from Chinese to North Korean. Of course, a lot of fans and film pundits balked, calling this a “chicken shit” move. The altering of the adventure film, which sees a group of teens defending themselves against a militant takeover, is being done to make the movie more appealing to potential distributors, and to not disrupt our country’s current alliance with the Chinese governemnet.

The digital altering of Red Dawn is ripe for discussion and debate. Today, “Red Dawn” producer Tripp Vinson has issued a statement via email addressing this very concern, saying that the decision to make the villains hail from North Korea is only going to make the thriller scarier and timelier. And perhaps even stronger.

Take a look below at what Tripp Vinson had to say:

“I know there is a lot of interest and questions as to the changes announced regarding Red Dawn.

This movie has been rebooted because the filmmakers all love the original movie. The experience of seeing Red Dawn as a young boy in the middle of a Cold War, was life changing for me and a generation. I assure you that everyone involved with the reboot is keenly aware of the responsibility of delivering a movie that can stand eye to eye with the original.

The changes made to Red Dawn in the last few weeks were made in consultation with military think tanks and people that specialize in game theory. Really smart people that spend their days constructing doomsday scenarios for our military and government. The type of people that know the limitations of the North Korean military. The type of people that can project a series of events that could lead to some very scary things happening to our Country. I can assure you, we listened well to those people, especially with regards to the capability of the North Korean military.

Red Dawn isn’t for everyone. So, if you are interested in seeing a movie filled with preachy political discussions – Red Dawn ain’t for you. If you love movies in which Americans are the bad guys – Red Dawn ain’t for you. If you get emotional watching daytime television – Red Dawn ain’t for you. If you’re a vegetarian – Red Dawn probably ain’t for you.

But! If you like meat with your potatoes, muscle cars that roar, tanks, guns and things blowing the fuck up by American’s kicking some Commie ass – then we have something special coming your way.
WOLVERINES!

Tripp Vinson”

Red Dawn comes to theaters in 2011 and stars Chris Hemsworth, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Adrianne Palicki, Josh Hutcherson, Isabel Lucas, Josh Peck, Brett Cullen, Matt Gerald. The film is directed by Dan Bradley. (Source)

Marvel is gearing up for a huge summer with two huge films, Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger. Both of those films are tied-in with The Avengers, Marvel’s next huge comic book adaptation. set to hit theaters May 4, 2012. Filming is about to begin with Joss Whedon directing the all-star superhero flick starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Samuel L. Jackson, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johanssen and Cobie Smulders. While we don’t know much about the plot of the film, seeing as it’s being kept under wraps, Super director James Gunn has heard some very cool things about the script. Check out what he has to say after the jump.

While speaking with Wired, Joss Whdeon had this to say:

Everybody I know who’s read it says it’s by far the best script for a Marvel movie ever. I’m very, very excited about it. Nobody loves superheroes more than Joss. He’s really got his heart in the right place.

Even though Gunn hasn’t read the script himself, it’s still a relief to hear that news. Many fans have been worried that The Avengers might turn out to be cluttered with so many leading characters. Who’s to blame them for thinking that? We’ve seen some films (Spider-Man 3, anyone?) ruined by introducing too many characters and not having a more focused, coherent story. As far as this little piece of news goes, I’ll believe it when I see it. I trust Whedon to do this film justice, seeing as he hasn’t done a single thing fans haven’t liked. (Source)

The Australian website Spotlight Reports tells us that the world premiere for the Kenneth Branagh directed Thor movie will be held in Sydney, Australia on Sunday April 17th, 2011.

Chris Hemsworth, who plays Thor, is from Melbourne, Australia – and the premiere will begin a two day promotional tour that will cover his hometown and also Sydney.

Spotlight Reports informs us that, “Walking the red carpet will be the film’s director Kenneth Branagh and Australian Chris Hemsworth in the title role of Thor, ‘The God of Thunder’ as well as Kat Dennings who stars as Darcy, Tom Hiddleston in the role of Thor’s brother Loki and Jaimie Alexander who plays Sif.”

Natalie Portman is noticeably absent from that list as she may be sitting this one out due to pregnancy. Anthony Hopkins is not mentioned, as well, – I think we can forgive the legendary actor if he can’t attend this one. Possibly, Hopkins could be working on another film or just hasn’t confirmed if he is attending or not.

Thor then opens in Australia on April 21st – a full two weeks prior to the US debut of May 6th. (Source)

This year’s buzz word when any actor is involved with a project and someone asks them about it is: Fantastic! This summer, there are two dozen highly anticipated superhero related projects either hitting the big screen or going into production. And all we know about them is that they are “fantastic”. Chris Hemsworth is the latest to use this all-encompassing praise. He has just seen Thor in its entirety. And you guessed it. He thinks the movie is “fantastic!”

Here is what he had to say about sitting down to watch one of this summer’s biggest potential blockbusters.

“I have [seen 'Thor'], yeah. It’s fantastic. Being that close to something, it’s often pretty hard to watch yourself, but the film in so many ways is so impressive that I was swept along with it like an audience member, and that’s a pretty good sign.”

The actor also spoke more about having to carry the weight of this iconic Marvel franchise squarely on his own shoulders.

“Literally, the costume weighed god-knows-how-many pounds. It was heavy. And this is a character who has a ton of history – 40 or 50 years’ worth – and a built-in fanbase. He’s a god and a lot of other things that become overwhelming. At the same time, it’s a dream. As a kid, you run around the house pretending to be a superhero, and now to be doing it as a job, I feel very lucky.”

On March 7th, Chris attended Cosmopolitan Magazine’s Fun Fearless Males of 2011! He was photographed alongside actor, Penn Badgley. Being that the night’s honorees were being lauded for being both playful and bold, MTV News decided to have them weigh in on the not-so-age-old question: Are you more fun or more fearless?

Chris Hemsworth, assessed himself like so: “Probably more foolish. It’s a fine line, isn’t it? Depends on whose observing and making that assessment. I think it’s a gray area. I’d like to think a bit of both. For me, it’s about having the courage to live in the moment.”

So, was the Aussie actor’s brother, fellow hottie Liam Hemsworth, upset at all that he didn’t get honored, as well? “No, he’s the fun, fearless one at home so he takes that title and holds it quite high,” Chris teased.
